TikTok Watch History: All 6 Histories and How to Clear Them

Your watch history lives in Profile, the three line menu, Settings and privacy, Activity center, Watch history. It goes back 180 days and can be filtered by date. But TikTok keeps six separate histories, each in a different place: watch, search, liked videos, favourites, comments and profile views. This page gives the exact path to each one, how to wipe it, and what TikTok holds on to anyway. If what you actually want is for your own videos to be seen, look at TikTok views instead.

Six histories, six different places

On its own, “TikTok history” means very little, which is why most tutorials answer the wrong question. The app keeps six separate records, with six paths and six retention windows. Work out which one you need before you start tapping.

• The videos you watched: Activity center, 180 days.
• What you searched for: Activity center or the search bar.
• Liked videos: the heart tab on your profile, no time limit.
• Saved videos: the bookmark tab on your profile, always private.
• Your comments: Activity center, full history.
• Accounts that opened your profile: the eye icon, 30 days, with conditions.

A seventh route covers all of them: requesting a copy of your data, which returns a file with the lot, including what the app no longer displays.

Watch history: the videos you have seen

This is the one nine people out of ten are after. Here is the path in September 2026.

1. Open your Profile, bottom right.
2. Tap the three line menu, top right.
3. Go to Settings and privacy.
4. Open the Activity center.
5. Tap Watch history.

The shortcut that keeps doing the rounds still works: tap the magnifying glass, type a single full stop in the search bar, and your watched videos open straight away.

The list covers 180 days, roughly six months, and can be filtered by date. Past that point the video is gone from the app and only a data export can still hold it. Older articles quoting seven days were written before the Activity center existed.

To clear it: inside the history, tap Select at the top right, then Select all, then Delete. You can also remove a single video. Deletion is instant and there is no undo.

One detail nobody mentions: there is no switch to stop TikTok recording what you watch. You can empty the list, but the recording carries on behind it.

Search history

Two ways in. The quick one: tap the magnifying glass, then See more under your recent searches, then Clear all. The full one: Settings and privacy, Activity center, Search history.

In the Activity center you get the complete list, and you can tap Select, tick Select all, then Delete. A single search can also be removed by swiping it or tapping the cross beside it.

Two useful consequences. The suggestions you see when you open search are partly built from this history, so emptying it changes what the app offers you straight away. And because it is stored against your account rather than your handset, clearing it on your phone clears it on every device you use.

Liked videos and saved videos

These two are not in the Activity center. They sit on your own profile as tabs.

The heart tab lists every video you have ever liked, with no time limit, which makes it by far the oldest history you can reach. It is private by default, but check the setting under Settings and privacy, Privacy, Liked videos. Removing a video from the list means unliking it: there is no bulk clear.

The bookmark tab holds your favourites, meaning the videos, sounds, effects and hashtags you have saved. It stays private whatever your settings, nobody else can see it, and you can sort it into collections. This is where a video you want back in six months belongs, rather than trusting your watch history.

These lists are also a decent mirror of what makes you react. The exercise is more telling on your own videos, provided they have a starting audience: plenty of creators build on a base of TikTok followers first.

Comment history

Path: Settings and privacy, Activity center, Comment history. You get a chronological list of everything you have written under other people’s videos, with the original post next to it.

To delete one, tap the comment to open the post, press and hold it, then choose Delete. This is where it gets painful: there is no bulk delete. TikTok makes you go one comment at a time, at roughly two to three seconds each. Five hundred comments is a solid half hour of manual work.

The extensions and apps promising to wipe them all in one go simply automate clicks. TikTok reads that as bot behaviour and penalises the account, sometimes permanently. The time saved is not worth the risk.

Profile view history

This one runs the other way: it tells you who came to you. Once it is on, an eye icon appears at the top right of your profile and lists the accounts that opened your page.

Setting path: Settings and privacy, Privacy, Profile views, then Profile view history.

Four conditions apply, and most people trip on one of them:

1. You must have switched it on, it is off by default.
2. Your visitor must have switched it on too, the feature is reciprocal.
3. You must be 16 or older.
4. You must have fewer than 5,000 followers, above that TikTok disables it.

The history covers 30 days, not 180. And if you turn the option off, TikTok wipes the list you had built up: switch it back on later and you start from nothing.

Download your whole TikTok history

When the app stops showing anything, the data export is the only road left. Path: Settings and privacy, Account, Download your data. Pick the categories, pick TXT or JSON, then request the file.

Preparation usually takes one to four days, TikTok allows itself up to thirty, and the file stays downloadable for only a few days under the Download data tab. After that you have to ask again.

What is inside: your video browsing history with a link and a timestamp for every video watched, your search history, liked videos, favourites, comments, shares, your following and follower lists, login history with device details, and the advertising interest categories TikTok has assigned to you. On an active account the browsing section routinely runs to tens of thousands of lines.

Finding a video you watched and lost

Plenty of people go hunting for their history for this reason alone. Four methods, from the most effective to the most desperate.

1. Watch history filtered by date. If you remember the day, set the date filter and scroll. Within 180 days this works better than anything else.
2. Your favourites and your likes. A lot of “lost” videos were liked at the time. The heart tab has no time limit, unlike the history.
3. The data export. Beyond six months this is the only memory left. Open the file, search by date, and every line carries the direct URL to the video.
4. Search by clue. The sound, the hashtag or the creator’s handle. Go through the sound page: it lists every video using it, which is usually faster than guessing keywords.

The habit that spares you all of this: the moment a video lands, tap the bookmark. Three seconds against half an hour of digging.

One honest limit: if the creator deleted the video, no method brings it back.

What TikTok keeps after you delete

Emptying a history makes it disappear from your screen. That is not the same as the data ceasing to exist.

TikTok’s privacy policy says it keeps information for as long as the service requires it, and then for as long as it has a legitimate business reason to. In practice, your past interactions carry on feeding the recommendation model after you delete the list. That is exactly why the For You feed does not budge when you wipe your watch history: you cleared the shop window, not the memory.

If starting fresh in the recommendations is the goal, the button is called Refresh your For You feed, under Settings and privacy, Content preferences. It behaves as though you had just signed up: TikTok shows you popular content and rebuilds your profile from your reactions. It cannot be undone and it only touches the For You feed, not your Following feed, your profile or your followers.

Deleting on a loop achieves very little. A tidy up now and then is enough. And if you post, traction in the first few hours matters far more than your history, for instance with TikTok likes.
