The “Sugar on My Tongue” trend is the fridge video: you put your phone inside the fridge, open the door right when Tyler, The Creator raps “sugar on my tongue”, make a small gesture, and the edit repeats that gesture three times in a loop. The song comes from Don’t Tap the Glass, released in July 2025. Kimberly Loaiza made the fridge angle popular in September 2025, and by mid October the sound had hit number 1 on TikTok. Here is how to do it properly in 2026, and how to give your version a head start with some TikTok likes.

Where did the Sugar on My Tongue trend come from?
A Tyler, The Creator track
The sound is a Tyler, The Creator song, written and produced by Tyler himself. It sits on Don’t Tap the Glass, his ninth album, which dropped as a surprise on July 21, 2025. The music video, directed by Tyler, came out on August 12, and the track became the album’s second official single on August 19, 2025.
It is electro hip-hop with synths, heavy 808s and a bit of Italo disco. The hook is short, repetitive and full of words that are easy to act out, which is pretty much the recipe for a TikTok trend.
The numbers followed. According to Wikipedia, the song peaked at number 41 on the Billboard Hot 100, 27 in the UK and 29 on the Billboard Global 200, and went platinum in the US.
Kimberly Loaiza and the fridge angle
People were already using the sound in summer 2025, but the fridge idea took over in September. The Tab (September 30, 2025) credits the angle to Mexican creator Kimberly Loaiza (@kimberlykimpena), one of the most followed TikTok personalities in Latin America. She posted several versions on September 10 and 11, then a remix captioned “last one i promise”.
Here is one of her versions, which shows the mechanics clearly:

How does the fridge trend work?
The structure has four beats, matched to three moments in the hook:
- The phone films from inside the fridge with the door shut. The screen is black, or close to it.
- You open the door exactly on “tongue”. Lots of people grab a candy or a piece of fruit here.
- On “your body is so sweet”, you hit a pose or roll your hips.
- On “come”, a small beckoning hand gesture toward the camera.
The edit is what makes it addictive. Each gesture gets cut and repeated three times while Tyler repeats the same words. The Tab explains the technique: split the clip right after “tongue” and “sweet”, duplicate that piece, then delete whatever runs over before the next line. The result looks like a deliberate glitch, and it is oddly hypnotic.
You don’t need a fridge. A cupboard, a mailbox, a switched off oven or a car trunk all work. What matters is a door opening on you.
Why did it blow up?
First, it’s easy. There is no choreography to learn and no gear: a fridge, a phone, ten seconds of filming. Anyone can do it after work.
Second, the loop makes people watch twice. You replay the video to figure out how the gesture repeats, and that extra view counts for the algorithm.
Third, celebrities jumped in fast. Industry outlet HITS Daily Double reported on October 16, 2025 that the song had climbed to number 1 on TikTok with more than a million uses in under three months, naming KATSEYE, BLACKPINK’s Lisa and Kylie Jenner among the participants. Kylie Jenner posted hers on October 2, in a Schiaparelli dress. When your cousin and a global star can do the same format equally well, it doesn’t stop.
There is also some self-irony in it. The lyrics are openly flirty, and the setting, a fridge full of yogurt, undercuts the whole thing. That gap is funny, and it’s why parents, pets and brands could join in.
Can a brand use it?
Yes, and some did early. The official Subway Surfers account posted its version on September 25, 2025, with the game character in place of a human. The trend suits brands with something that lives in the fridge or a setting with a door: drinks, desserts, grocery stores, wine shops, even appliance makers.
Two warnings. The lyrics are suggestive, so skip this format if your brand speaks to kids. And keep it light: audiences quickly mock a brand that pushes the sexy angle too hard.
Does it still work in 2026?
Honestly, the peak is behind us. The wave crested between late September and late October 2025. Tyler, The Creator later performed the song at the 68th Grammy Awards in February 2026, but on TikTok the format never got its autumn momentum back.
A year on, the format is still instantly recognizable, and that helps: everyone gets the joke the second the fridge door opens. A version filmed today can work if it adds a twist, like an unexpected location, a pet, or a “one year later” wink. A carbon copy of the original won’t get you noticed.
Your fridge video deserves an audience
On TikTok, the first hour decides a lot. A boost in views helps your version get past your own followers and onto the For You feed.
