How to Make Money on TikTok: 7 Real Sources in 2026

⏱️ Reading time: 7 minutes

TikTok pays out through seven channels, and only one of them pays for views. That channel, the Creator Rewards Program, runs in eight countries as of 10 September 2026: the US and the UK are in, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand are not. The other six, LIVE gifts, shop affiliate links, brand deals, paid content, your own products and traffic sent elsewhere, each have their own rules. None guarantees an income, and all of them start with an audience, so with TikTok followers.

The seven income sources at a glance

Requirements checked in the TikTok Help Center on 10 September 2026. The amounts come from dated third party reports: TikTok publishes no rate card.

Creator Rewards: eight countries, 10,000 followers

The only channel where TikTok pays for views, and the one that replaced the Creator Fund shut down in late 2023. Official requirements: 18 or older (19 in South Korea), 10,000 followers, 100,000 views in the last 30 days on a rolling window, a Personal account (Business accounts are excluded), no active guideline strike, and videos longer than one minute. Each video also needs 1,000 qualified views from the For You feed, a qualified view being unique per account and longer than five seconds.

The eight countries named in TikTok’s contractual terms: Brazil, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, the UK and the US. Payout threshold is $10, paid on the 15th of the month, through PayPal in most markets.

The figure most often quoted is $0.40 to $1.00 per 1,000 qualified views (Influencer Marketing Hub, updated 26 September 2025), which states that TikTok publishes no breakdown. Buffer, on 11 December 2025, quotes that range plus a far higher one, noting that sources disagree, so treat it as a ballpark. The full calculation is in our guide on how much TikTok pays per 1,000 views.

Earning nothing at all: Duets, Stitches, photo slideshows, lightly edited reposts, lip sync or copyrighted music playing past one minute, sponsored content, and videos made through TikTok One or attached to a Series. If a video is removed, rewards already credited are deducted from your balance. Since the 100,000 view threshold is lost as fast as it is reached, plenty of accounts secure their volume with TikTok views.

LIVE gifts and diamonds

Viewers buy coins, turn them into gifts, and the creator receives diamonds that convert to cash. Coin packs run from $0.29 to $249.99 (Sprout Social, 26 June 2025).

Two features that guides almost always mix up. LIVE Gifts require you to be 18, to have LIVE access and to live in an eligible country: no follower threshold appears in the Help Center, the famous 1,000 followers being the condition for LIVE itself. Video Gifts require 10,000 followers, an account older than 30 days, a Personal account and a public post in the last 30 days.

On countries, the official wording is that the feature “is not available everywhere”, with no list. A diamond is worth roughly $0.005, with withdrawals capped at $1,000 a day (reported 10 March 2026). The share TikTok keeps, usually quoted as half, is inferred from the gap between coin prices and diamond value: it is not a published number. Sprout Social reported sessions paying $20 to $300 in June 2025, and one outlier at $34,000 in a month, but those are individual reports rather than averages.

TikTok Shop affiliate commissions

You feature a product from the creator marketplace in a video or a LIVE, and you earn a commission on sales attributed to your link.

The blocker is geography. TikTok publishes no market list and the three third party lists disagree: Shopify (15 May 2026) names the US, the UK, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines; Buffer (11 December 2025) adds Ireland, Mexico and Spain; DemandSage (7 September 2026) also mentions Brazil, Germany and Canada. Canada and Australia appear in none of them except that last mention, so check your own market in the app before planning around it.

Reported requirements: 18 or older, identity verification and around 1,000 followers (10 March 2026), none of it officially confirmed. Category commission rates are documented nowhere.

The volumes are documented: $123.5 billion in sales projected for 2026 against $64.3 billion in 2025, and 42% of US sales driven by affiliate content (DemandSage, 7 September 2026). Conversion sits at 3% to 6% in video, 8% to 12% in live shopping.

Brand deals and TikTok One

The creator marketplace has been renamed: the official monetisation page, checked on 10 September 2026, now points to TikTok One.

Entry requirements are not published. The numbers going around, 18 or older, 10,000 followers, 1,000 post views and three posts in 30 days, come from a guide dated 10 March 2026. Nothing forces you through the tool either: deals are signed by direct message from any country, which makes this the most open source for anyone outside the eight.

Rates per sponsored video, reported on 31 August 2026 by Influencer Marketing Hub:

  • 1,000 to 10,000 followers: around $50 to $200.
  • 10,000 to 100,000 followers: around $200 to $800.
  • 100,000 to 1 million: around $800 to $5,000.
  • Above one million: $5,000 to $50,000 and up.

Everything is negotiated on engagement, niche, audience geography and usage rights. Worth remembering: a sponsored video, or one run through TikTok One, is ineligible for rewards.

Subscriptions and paid content

The format documented in September 2026 is Series: up to 80 paid videos of 30 seconds to 20 minutes, priced anywhere from $0.99 to $189.99, locked once published.

Official requirements: 18 or older, an account at least 30 days old, a public Personal or Business account, three posts and 1,000 views in 30 days, and 10,000 followers. One rarely mentioned exception: below 10,000 followers you can still apply by linking premium content you have already sold elsewhere. Payouts start at $50, through PayPal, on the 15th. TikTok’s cut is not published.

Paid LIVE subscriptions deserve a caveat: the September 2026 Help Center has no dedicated article left, and what it does document is the free, points based LIVE Fan Club, even though the LIVE hub page still mentions subscriptions. Check the monetisation tab in TikTok Studio before building a plan on it. Tips still exist, but “in select countries” only, with no list, and donations go to nonprofits rather than to you.

Selling your own products or services

Here there is no platform requirement, so the channel stays open everywhere, Canada, Ireland, Australia and India included. Coaching, courses, presets, physical goods: the account is the shop window, the sale happens elsewhere.

The tools: link in bio, TikTok Shop where your market has it, and Shopify, BigCommerce or Ecwid integrations on a Business account (Sprout Social, 26 June 2025). Two side routes pay without a big audience: licensing viral clips through Jukin Media or ViralHog, from a few hundred to several thousand dollars (10 March 2026), and producing content for brands. No sourced conversion rate exists for off platform selling.

Sending your audience to other platforms

The arithmetic settles it: Creator Rewards covers eight countries, while the YouTube Partner Program, Shorts included, covers nearly every country where TikTok operates. For a creator in Canada, Ireland or Australia, the shortest path to ad revenue does not run through TikTok. Short video captures attention, the bio sends people to long form or a newsletter. Cross platform carry over rates have no recent public data behind them, so treat articles quoting one with caution.

What it takes, and what it actually pays

The time commitment follows from the thresholds. Staying eligible for rewards means 100,000 views every 30 days, continuously, with videos over one minute and 1080p for the quality bonus. Video Gifts switch off without a post in 30 days, and Series demands three posts a month. That works out to a weekly cadence held for months, in formats longer than the ones that go viral fastest.

The delay before the first dollar is just as calculable: about three days to review your application, one to three days before rewards appear, a payment only on the 15th of the following month, a $10 threshold, then 72 hours through PayPal. Six to eight weeks at best between your first eligible video and money in the account.

By account size:

  • 1,000 followers: LIVE and gifts, plus selling your own offers. Rewards, Video Gifts and Series out of reach.
  • 10,000 followers: everything opens up, with 100,000 views in 30 days and one of the eight countries. The view threshold blocks more people than the follower one.
  • 100,000 followers: brands overtake views, at $200 to $800 per video on August 2026 figures.
  • 1 million: campaign level negotiation, and a shift towards your own products.

The most telling number available comes from the most mature market: on the US shop, DemandSage counted more than 100,000 affiliate creators on 7 September 2026, roughly 54,000 of them above $10,000 a year. Half of the active affiliates therefore earn less than that, where the ecosystem works best. No figure in this article is a promise.

Every source starts at the same threshold

Rewards, Video Gifts, Series: all three ask for 10,000 followers before money enters the conversation.

FAQ

How many followers before TikTok pays you? thresholds
10,000 followers for the Creator Rewards Program, Video Gifts and Series, plus 100,000 views in 30 days for rewards. LIVE and its gifts open up around 1,000 followers. Brand deals and selling your own offers have no threshold at all.
Can you make money on TikTok in Canada, Ireland or Australia? countries
Not through Creator Rewards: eight countries only as of 10 September 2026, and none of those three is on the list. What remains is LIVE gifts where the feature is active, brand deals, selling your own products, and sending traffic to a better covered platform such as YouTube.
How long before the first payment lands? timing
Six to eight weeks at best: three days for the application review, one to three days before rewards show up, a payment only on the 15th of the following month, a $10 threshold to clear, then 72 hours through PayPal.
Which source pays the most on TikTok? income
Brand deals, almost always: $200 to $800 per video between 10,000 and 100,000 followers on August 2026 figures, against a few dozen dollars for the same views through rewards. A sponsorship does disqualify that video from rewards, though.
Does the TikTok Creator Fund still exist in 2026? programme
No. It closed in late 2023, and the September 2026 Help Center mentions neither the fund nor the Creativity Program. The only scheme that pays for views is the Creator Rewards Program. Guides quoting $20 per million views are repeating the old fund’s rate.
