Made on YouTube 2026 took place on 23 September 2026 in New York. Only one announcement is usable by creators right now: Shorts series, with seasons and episodes. Everything else comes later: A/B testing of up to three cuts of the same video “soon”, Shopping affiliate in 35 countries by the end of 2026, live showdowns and live dubbing in 2027, and custom feeds for US viewers only. The Partner Program thresholds for 1 February 2027 did not move. What still gets you over them is YouTube views on formats that hold attention.
What was announced at Made on YouTube 2026, and when does it land?
YouTube published eight posts on its official blog on 23 September, one of them signed by CEO Neal Mohan. Most recaps put everything on the same level, yet half the announcements have no date and some only apply to the United States. Here is the sorted version.
| Announcement | Status on 24 September 2026 |
|---|---|
| Shorts series (seasons, episodes) | Available, rolling out since 23/09 on web, mobile and TV |
| A/B test of up to three cuts of a video | Soon, no date |
| Conversational editing (Shorts, YouTube Create) | Announced, no date |
| Likeness detection: mobile app, then voice | Mobile announced without a date, voice by end of 2026 |
| React live to a long-form video | Rolling out from late 2026 |
| Creator matchmaking for co-streams, live auto dubbing | Early 2027 (dubbing as a pilot) |
| Live showdowns | 2027 |
| YouTube Shopping affiliate program | 35 countries by end of 2026 |
| Custom homepage feeds | Soon, US only |
According to 9to5Google and TechCrunch, GIF comments arrive this fall and group chats come to direct messages. On the music side, Ask Music lands in YouTube Music and Coachella stays exclusive to YouTube through 2030. Good news for viewers, not much for your channel.
What do Shorts series change for your channel?
This is the only announcement already rolling out. You group your Shorts into seasons and episodes with their own thumbnail, and viewers watch them in order instead of landing on episode 8. The series lives on your channel, on web, mobile and TV. TechCrunch reports that the rollout starts with channels in the YouTube Partner Program.
YouTube points to microdramas to explain the move: vertical fiction cut into short episodes. They passed 6.5 billion views in the first half of 2026, with watch time up more than 50% year on year, and TV views up more than 90%.

Why it matters for the 10 million threshold
Sequential playback raises the number of views per viewer. And from 1 February 2027, your Shorts views over 90 days decide whether you get the Shorts revenue share. If you make stories, multi-part tutorials or long-running challenges, split them into episodes. Then give the first episode enough YouTube Shorts views so the next ones have an audience to be served to.
One more change from the same day: your posts can now be recommended from the Shorts feed on web and mobile, and they will reach TVs in the coming months, where viewers will also be able to comment by voice.
What new tools are coming to YouTube Studio?
None of these has a firm date, so don’t be surprised if your dashboard looks the same this morning.
- A/B testing of the video itself: up to three cuts of the same video, to see which hook holds attention best. YouTube says “coming soon”. Title and thumbnail tests have already been used for more than 40 million experiments since their official launch in 2024.
- Dynamic thumbnails: you supply three thumbnails and YouTube shows the best one to each audience segment. Studio will also generate thumbnails that match your channel’s style.
- Feedback on drafts: advice on pacing, structure and storytelling before you publish.
- Conversational editing: in Shorts and the YouTube Create app, a Gemini-based assistant trims pauses, reorders clips and syncs music to the beat. You can still edit the timeline by hand.

Protecting your face and your comments
Likeness detection, which finds videos that use your face, is coming to the mobile app. Later this year, YouTube will start combining face and voice detection. An opt-in comment moderation tool that learns your settings is being tested.
What changes for live streaming?
More than 40% of live watch time comes from viewers outside the creator’s home country, according to YouTube. All four live announcements are still ahead.
- React live: from late 2026, a “React live” button will let you start a reaction stream on any eligible long-form video. The reacting creator keeps the ad revenue and fan funding. The original creator gets attribution, view credit in Studio and control over which videos can be reacted to.
- Go Live Together: in early 2027, you will be able to pick a co-host among creators who are live or let YouTube match you with one.
- Live showdowns: in 2027, two co-hosts go head to head while chats, gifts and Super Chats push their score up on screen. It is hard not to think of TikTok LIVE battles.
- Live auto dubbing: a pilot in early 2027 that translates your speech in real time.
Brands and Shopping: how can you earn more from these announcements?
YouTube Creator Partnerships, which puts channels in front of brands, is available in 20 countries. New: after a sponsored video, you share a one-click access code with the brand. It sees the video’s performance and can put ad budget behind it with creator partnerships boost. Soon, Ask Studio will help you answer brand briefs. Dynamic brand segments, still in testing, will let you insert the same sponsored segment into up to 20 long-form videos at once, targeted by region.
On affiliate, YouTube claims more than 1.3 million creators in the program, 13 times more sales volume in two years, and product tags that get more than twice the clicks of description links. The program should cover 35 countries by the end of 2026. Amazon product tagging, already open in the US, reaches India and Brazil in the coming weeks. Links will adapt to the viewer’s country. The post does not list the 35 countries, so check the Earn tab in Studio to see whether your channel has access.
Did the monetization rules change?
No, nothing new on that front on 23 September. The rules published on 10 August 2026 are still the ones that apply from 1 February 2027.
- For new Partner Program applicants: 8,000 valid public watch hours over 365 days, or 20 million valid Shorts views over 90 days. Channels already in the program are not affected.
- For the Shorts revenue share: 10 million valid Shorts views over 90 days, about 111,000 views a day. Below that, only this share pauses. Your channel stays in the program.
Since 24 July 2026, channels in the program can also add a custom thumbnail to a Short.
What should you do this week?
- Create a first series: check in Studio whether the option has reached your channel. If it has, group five to ten Shorts that already follow each other and work on the series thumbnail.
- Measure your gap to the 2027 thresholds: watch hours over 365 days, Shorts views over 90 days. Then you know whether February is a non-event or a deadline.
- Prepare two hooks per long video: when cut testing arrives, you will already have the material. Until then, test titles and thumbnails with the current tool.
- Turn on affiliate if your country is open: product tags also work in Shorts and on TV.
None of these features replaces an audience that comes back. A base of active YouTube subscribers gives every new episode an audience on release day, and that is what keeps a series going.
Launching your first series or your next video? An initial wave of views gives the ranking system something to test your format with on a wider audience, instead of letting it fade in cold recommendations.
