When you edit, nothing around the comment moves. It keeps its position in the thread, its likes, and every reply attached to it. The conversation carries on untouched, and only the “Edited” label is added. Nobody gets a notification about the correction.

When you delete, you take the whole thread with you. Replies posted under your comment vanish with it, including other people’s, and the likes it had gathered reset to zero. On a comment that started a discussion the loss is real: you erase several people’s contributions to fix a comma.
